Scientific methods to control blood sugar fluctuations and prevent weight loss failure and rebound.
We have learned that the hormone insulin, which is associated with obesity, is a storage hormone. When insulin is released, the body enters a fat-storing mode. Only when insulin levels return to normal can the body enter a fat-burning, energy-consuming mode. Therefore, when the time spent storing fat exceeds the time spent burning fat, the body easily accumulates fat, and people become fatter.
If a person consumes a large amount of sugary foods during their three meals a day, such as a meal with little vegetables and a lot of rice, or a bowl of oily noodles, or a piece of bread, then insulin will be released in large quantities due to the sudden increase in blood sugar levels. Excessive insulin secretion then causes blood sugar levels to drop too quickly and too low after the meal. This rapid fluctuation in blood sugar is what is called a "blood sugar roller coaster."
When a "blood sugar roller coaster" occurs, due to the low blood sugar levels, people experience drowsiness, trembling, and restlessness. They also feel hungrier and crave snacks. In fact, most people's snack choices are usually high-sugar foods such as milk tea, biscuits, chocolate, cakes, and fruit. Eating snacks interrupts the fat-burning mode between meals, causing the body to stop burning fat and return to the fat-storing mode. This repeated "blood sugar roller coaster" throughout the day means that the body spends far less time burning fat than storing it. In other words, there are more opportunities to accumulate fat and fewer opportunities to burn it.
As mentioned earlier, frequent and large releases of insulin throughout the day also affect leptin signaling, leading to increased appetite and greater food consumption. Avoiding these large fluctuations in blood sugar is crucial for preventing obesity. Therefore, it is essential to break the habit of snacking between meals, especially on high-sugar foods. This also explains another reason why eating small, frequent meals doesn't actually help with weight loss and can even make you more prone to gaining weight.
