Weight Loss and Belly Slimming: Liver Protection, Detoxification, and Heart Nourishment – Reducing Visceral Fat at its Root

2026-03-26

Which internal organs are prone to fat accumulation? The liver, pancreas, spleen, and other organs can all accumulate fat. The liver is the most important, as it is the hub of metabolism, digesting carbohydrates and fats. The liver regulates blood lipid levels, blood sugar levels, and lipoprotein levels. If the liver is dysfunctional, the blood it metabolizes will have high blood lipids and high blood sugar. This blood, when transported throughout the body, will accumulate various impurities in the blood vessels, leading to narrowing, hardening, and insufficient blood supply to the arteries, naturally resulting in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Therefore, to reduce visceral fat, the first step is to protect the liver. If you can help the liver detoxify and restore its normal fat-breaking function, while controlling fat intake, even without dieting, weight will gradually decrease.

A singer friend of mine, who married and moved to Singapore, returned to China after several years. She went to the hospital specifically to see a doctor about infertility and happened to run into a friend who almost didn't recognize her because she had become a woman weighing over 70 kilograms. During our meal, she was seen gulping down soup and eating meat with gusto, her carefree demeanor quite worrying. If she continued like this, she would soon surpass 80 pounds. Therefore, the doctor advised her to focus on weight loss. Besides instructing her to exercise more, the doctor also prescribed a diet to aid liver detoxification, hoping she would become slimmer. However, she didn't care about her figure, thinking that since she was going to get pregnant anyway, there was no rush to lose weight; she could worry about it after giving birth. But the doctor repeatedly urged her to follow the diet, though the doctor was genuinely worried she would ignore his advice.

Two months later, she returned to Beijing, bringing many gifts for the doctor. Her weight had dropped to just over 50 kilograms. The doctor rubbed his eyes and said, "How come you've shrunk so much in just a few days?" "It's all thanks to you! I don't want to get pregnant anymore. I've lost weight, and I've received offers to sign a singing contract. I don't need to alter my old dresses anymore, saving a lot on clothing expenses. I came here specifically to thank you."

Speaking of aiding liver detoxification, physical exercise is undoubtedly the top choice. During exercise, applying pressure to detoxifying organs such as the liver can improve organ tension, accelerate blood circulation, and promote detoxification. Suitable activities include jogging, brisk walking, cycling, climbing stairs, hill climbing, badminton, shuttlecock kicking, ball bouncing, dancing, calisthenics, rope skipping, and swimming.

If you don't have time to exercise, don't worry. Below, we'll introduce a liver-protecting massage exercise. Just 10 minutes a day can help keep fatty liver and other diseases away from your body.

1. Liver Massage Exercise

(1) Rub your hands together to warm them.

(2) With your fingers pointing inwards, gently move your hands 2-3 cm inwards from below your ribs, directly below your nipples.

Tips for Reducing Belly Fat: Signals of a Toxin-Induced Liver

Don't ignore the following signals your body sends:

● Frequent, unexplained headaches.

● Respiratory problems, sinus problems, or asthma.

● Abnormal body odor, bad breath, or tongue coating.

● Food allergies, indigestion, or chronic constipation accompanied by bloating. ● Brittle and easily broken nails and hair, and eye bags.

● Unusually poor memory, chronic insomnia, depression, and irritability.

● Chronic fatigue, drowsiness, and lethargy.

Confusion and poor concentration.

● High sensitivity to the surrounding environment, especially unpleasant odors.

● Yellowing and itchy skin, tinea versicolor, psoriasis, adult acne, poor hair quality, and slow hair growth.

● Unexplained weight gain.

If you experience any of these symptoms, it's time to cleanse and detoxify your liver.

(3) This point is on the liver meridian; massaging it can help nourish the liver.

2. Embracing Liver Exercise

(1) Cross your arms over your chest, with your left hand on the outside.

(2) Slowly twist your body to the left, inhaling deeply until you can't inhale anymore, then exhale slowly.

(3) Twist your body to the right and repeat.

Besides exercise, diet is also an important way to help the liver detoxify. In your daily diet, eat more carrots, garlic, grapes, and figs, as these fruits and vegetables have excellent detoxifying effects.

The heart is a direct victim of obesity; a balance of activity and rest is essential for heart and body health.

Of all internal organs, the heart is the most vulnerable. To give a very simple example: the heart, as the driving force of blood circulation, acts like a pump, propelling blood. Under normal circumstances, the heart ejects about 70 milliliters of blood with each beat, equivalent to more than half a glass of water. If we calculate based on an average heart rate of 75 beats per minute, the heart ejects 5 liters of blood per minute. Based on this flow rate, the heart pumps a total of 8000 liters of blood per day. If the blood contains a large amount of fat, the burden on the heart not only increases, but this fat also accumulates on the blood vessels, causing them to become increasingly narrow, thus accelerating the aging process.

How to nourish the heart? Our ancestors pointed out the way long ago: a balance of activity and rest. For those with excess nutrition, this balance is undoubtedly a good remedy.

Movement is the source of life; we should exercise more regularly to achieve a perfect figure.

There was once a wealthy man who, due to excessive obesity, suffered from numerous ailments. One day, he went to a monastery to seek guidance from the Buddha: "Buddha! I suffer greatly from the inconveniences of my obesity; not only am I sluggish and lethargic all day, but even the slightest movement causes me great pain."

The Buddha asked, "Do you want to know the cause of your many illnesses?"

"Yes! Buddha! Please show me your compassion."

Tips for reducing belly fat: Jumping rope can prevent and treat illnesses. British fitness expert Mumm has fully affirmed the disease-preventing and disease-treating effects of jumping rope. He believes that jumping rope can enhance the function of the cardiovascular, respiratory, and nervous systems. Studies have confirmed that jumping rope can prevent diabetes, arthritis, obesity, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, muscle atrophy, high cholesterol, insomnia, depression, menopausal syndrome, and other ailments. For breastfeeding and postmenopausal women, jumping rope also has a positive effect on mood.

The Buddha said, “There are four reasons why you are obese and sickly today:

First, you are greedy for sleep. Second, you indulge in excessive enjoyment without working. Third, you spend your days without using your mind. Fourth, you are idle and aimless.

Therefore, you should henceforth moderate your diet, work diligently, and develop your potential and wisdom. If you can follow my words, you will surely be able to cure your illness and prolong your life.”

The wealthy man diligently followed the Buddha's teachings. Before long, he lost weight, his spirits lifted, and he looked much younger.

The Buddha's teaching in this story is the way of balancing activity and stillness. Excessive enjoyment without working, spending your days without using your mind, and idleness are all criticisms of “laziness.”

Stillness is the foundation of nourishing the mind, because the mind governs the spirit; therefore, nourishing the mind mainly involves nourishing the spirit. In daily life, try to maintain a calm and peaceful mind, neither overjoyed nor overly worried; in your interactions with others, don't be concerned with gains and losses, and let go of what needs to be let go, in order to maintain a peaceful state of mind. Only by achieving a balance between activity and stillness can the heart serve your body undisturbed and responsibly. Massaging the Laogong acupoint on your hand and the Yongquan acupoint on your foot before bed each night can help harmonize the heart and kidneys and improve sleep. For dietary nourishment, regularly drinking American ginseng infusion and consuming longan, lotus seeds, lily bulbs, and black fungus can benefit the heart's qi and nourish its yin. It's also important to rest at midday, as the heart is most active at this time, which is also the time of yin-yang harmony; therefore, resting at midday helps preserve the heart's qi.
